Jay Leno went on Oprah recently to express his feelings about the whole NBC late night embarrassing debacle. Jay told Oprah right off the bat that when he was told he was being taken out of the “Tonight Show” six years ago he was crushed. “It broke my heart, it really did. I was devastated,” said Jay.
According to Jay, NBC told him he was being replaced by Conan O’Brian because they didn’t want to lose him. “That was pretty shocking,” Jay said. And to explain the move back in 2006 Jay said, “I told a little white lie on the air,” by saying he was going to retire. “It made it easier that way.”
And in speaking about Jimmy Kimmel’s appearance on his show, Jay said “I got sucker-punched”. Jay explained he could have edited the interview with Jimmy, “but I said, ‘No. Put it out there. I walked into it.’”
Hmmm, quite a different story hearing it from the horse’s mouth no?
